WELCOME TO THE
FRIENDS OF
HEMPLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL!

Who are we?
We were set up in 2002 and are a group of parents who fundraise for activities that will benefit Hempland pupils. We are a Membership Association: this means that everyone who is part of the school community (including you!) automatically becomes a member. We are run by a committee and supported by a team of
events volunteers. We have children across all year groups (as well as some who have left primary school, and some who haven’t started yet!) Our main aim is to raise funds for the school by putting on activities that the whole school community can enjoy. We tend to fund experiential activities for children (such as trips, equipment and specialist workshops held in school), although we sometimes buy other things that will benefit the school community, or subsidise year-group trips and residentials.

Events organised by the Friends include…
● Summer Social
● Christmas Fair
● Chocolate Tombola
● School discos
● Bun Club
● Ice Lolly Club
● Raffles
● Pea Hunt
● Pre-loved uniform sales

Can you help us?
We’re always looking for volunteers! We understand the difficulties of
juggling work, kids and life in general, and there is no pressure to
contribute more time than you have. Here are the different ways of

helping us:
● By joining our friendly committee, attending committee meetings
and helping shape the future of the Association
● By joining our Events Helpers group: this is a WhatsApp group in
which we post calls for help with specific events
● By helping with Bun Club, either by baking for us a couple of
times a term, or by helping sell cakes on a Wednesday afternoon
● By selling ice creams at our Friday Ice Lolly Club (Fridays,
summer term only)
● By keeping an eye on our newsletters, following us on social
media, and responding to our calls for help

Here are some of the things we have funded recently:
● A subsidy towards the cost of residential trips
● A defibrillator
● An outdoor corner cabin for Early Years
● School trips including a pantomime visit and the Van Gogh
experience
● Specialist visitors to school including Zoo Lab, a Narnia inspired
theme day with a drama company, and an outdoor team building
experience
● Classroom equipment including books
● Visits from an ice cream van after sports days
● Leavers’ gifts for Year 6
