At Hempland Primary School, each year group is represented by two elected pupils who take pride in being the voice of their peers and playing an active role in school life.
The School Council is a valued and influential part of our school community. Councillors take their leadership responsibilities seriously, working collaboratively to share ideas, raise suggestions and help shape decisions that impact pupils across the school. Through regular discussions and feedback from their classes, members ensure that pupil voice is heard and respected.
School Council meetings are led by Mrs Dent and take place regularly throughout the year. These meetings provide pupils with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of responsibility, while contributing positively to the continued development of Hempland Primary School.
Some examples of projects that the school council have led on recently are: litter picking in the local area, meeting the Lord Mayor of York, working towards the Healthy School Award, supporting with staff recruitment and initiatives to support charities.
